BSc (Hons) Occupational Therapy
I qualified in 1999 as an Occupational Therapist and have spent my career to date working in a variety of different physical settings including inpatient and community rehabilitation. I am currently working in Independent Private Practice and Case Management through Stokes Case Management.
I have developed a broad range of clinical experience within the following areas: orthopaedics, palliative care, care of the elderly and dementia care (with co-pathologies such as visual impairment), stroke and head injury, burns and plastics (adult and paediatric), rheumatology, cardiology and respiratory disorders. My most recent role in the NHS was that of team manager for surgery / amputees and community rehabilitation, where I carried a significant clinical caseload and managed a team of Occupational therapy staff. I was responsible for supervision of both Occupational therapists and students and regularly undertook in-service training.
By working mainly in the physical field, I have developed a comprehensive knowledge of implementing the assessment and treatment processes for a large range of medical conditions. This consists of detailed assessments of activities of daily living, home visits and the provision of necessary equipment. It also includes liaison with appropriate multi-disciplinary team members along with other professionals and family members to ensure an appropriate care plan is implemented prior to discharge.
In addition, I undertake medico-legal work through Somek and Associates. I accept instructions from both Claimant and Defendant Solicitors and Insurers. My Claimant / Defendant split (2014) is 59% and 37% respectively with 4% single joint instructions. I have undergone formal training in the medico-legal process and am fully aware of my responsibilities under the Civil Procedure Rules (CPR) pertaining to Expert Witnesses.
