BSc (Hons) Occupational Therapy
I qualified as an Occupational Therapist in 1995 and have mainly worked in the field of physical disability. Whilst in the NHS I specialised in neurology and adult general physical disability, including working on medical and surgery wards and care of the older persons. I gained considerable experience in assessing patients / clients in respect of their needs to enable safe discharge into the community, home adaptations, equipment, care and undertaking community rehabilitation.
I joined Somek and Associates in 2007, since then I have written many medico-legal reports following instructions from both Claimant and Defendant Solicitors and Insurers, as well as being instructed on a Single Joint basis. I have undergone training in the medico-legal process and am fully aware of my responsibilities under the Civil Procedure Rules (CPR) pertaining to Expert Witnesses. Since 2010 I have worked as a casework supervisor, mentoring allied health professionals, reviewing case reports and more recently assisting in the training of associates.
Since 2013, I have also worked as a case manager overseeing rehabilitation and care for a range of clients who have sustained life changing injuries, predominantly following road traffic incidents. This work has required me to organise and oversee psychological support, physiotherapy, speech and language therapy, personal trainers and vocational rehabilitation and provide reports to insurers and solicitors.
