BSc Occupational Therapy
Having worked as an Occupational Therapist since 1999, I have gained experience in different fields within OT.
Since relocating to the UK, in 2004, my work has focussed on the area of community rehabilitation. I have treated patients within their own homes and also in in-patient rehabilitation settings. I also have experience in equipment provision, care of the elderly and falls prevention having worked with older patients suffering from general medical, orthopaedic and neurological conditions which placed them at a greater risk of suffering a fall.
Within my current position, I provide ad hoc OT support for the ward staff and ensure patients are allocated in to the correct clinical pathway. I have involvement with the more complex patients and attend multi-disciplinary meetings to facilitate timely discharges.
In addition, I complete RCA for falls where moderate harm has occurred and undertake compliant investigations for clinical and non clinical issues. My recent years of management experience has honed my analytical, reasoning and numerical skills for thebetterment of the patients and service outcomes. Often I need to compare the staffing, the processes, protocols, working practice, attitude & culture of the work environment and the competency of staff when an issue arises. These experiences provides me with an ability to analyse the issues and come up with recommendations and action plans based on the clinical reasoning or evidence collected from the investigation to support my decision making. I also prepare monthly stats to ensure the service is running efficiently with emphasis to different key performance indicators agreed by the service and the commissioning bodies.
In addition, I undertake work as a private OT on an ad-hoc basis which comprises of an initial assessment with further treatment sessions as required.
I accept instruction from both claimant and defendant solicitors and insurers. I have undergone formal training in the medico-legal process and am fully aware of my responsibilities under Civil procedure Rules (CPR) pertaining to expert witnesses.
