    Introduction

I qualified in 1979 and initially gained a broad range of experience in both acute and community settings, working with adults with Physical disabilities. I worked in orthopaedic surgery, Rheumatology, Care of the Elderly, Stroke and general medicine. I then specialised in Adult Neurology working in community teams; with stroke patients in early supported discharge and rehabilitation. This involved designing and delivering care and Rehabilitation programmes. My role progressed to include working with adults with other forms of Acquired Brain Injury, Spinal Injuries, progressive Neurological conditions and Movement disorders. During this I time I also led the Rapid response therapy service for people with Motor Neurone Disease.

I have gained experience in working with adults and children facing long term disability, coping with the impact that neurological conditions have on their functional ability, lifestyle and psycho social functioning. I am experienced in exploring solutions to meet individual needs. eg specialist equipment for postural support, Bathing, showering and all aspects of personal care. I am also experienced in assessing and resolving complex Moving and handling situations to enable safe care to take place whilst still enabling the individual to maintain autonomy and independence.
I have received training in the assessment and treatment of cognitive impairment associated with Stroke and Acquired brain injury.

I have worked with care agencies and trained support workers in developing the community living skills of adults with acquired brain injury; in the areas of self care, domestic skills, using public transport and preparation for vocational training.

My experience of working with Spinal injuries has included facilitating hospital discharge, provision of specialist equipment to meet immediate needs and assessing longer term housing needs. I have also developed an awareness of the challenges facing individuals with spinal injuries in maintaining their physical health and psychological wellbeing.

I currently work with Children with physical disabilities, including Developmental delay, Cerebral Palsy, and progressive Neuro- muscular conditions such Muscular Dystrophy. I assess and recommend specialist equipment for postural support, bathing, showering and toileting as well as Moving and Handling risk assessments.
I lead the Occupational Therapy team responsible for the assessment of the Housing needs of families with children who have disabilities. I work with Housing providers in identifying properties which are suitable for adaptation, liaise with architects and technical officers, and write reports to justify the need and eligibility for Disabled Facilities Grants. I assess children in their homes and school environments and recommend major or minor adaptations to enable children to access all facilities and support their parents and carers in their role. I have experience in adapting home environments to ensure the safety of Children presenting with challenging behaviour.

I accept instructions from both Claimant and Defendant Solicitors and Insurers. I have undergone formal training in the medico-legal process and am fully aware of my responsibilities under the Civil Procedure Rules (CPR) pertaining to Expert Witnesses.
