I qualified in 1974 and went on to work on acute surgical wards. I completed my district nurse training 2 years later and during this time I had clinical responsibility for acutely ill patients in hospital and people with chronic conditions being treated in the community. Since then, I have gained extensive experience across a broad medical field including palliative care.
Since 2001, I have worked as a clinical nurse specialist in neurology, specialising in multiple sclerosis and motor neurone disease. I manage this service and am directly involved in clinical assessments in out patient clinics, acute wards and the community. My role involves clinical reviews and acute assessments, prescribing treatments, managing acute relapses, and admissions to hospital. These patients can be extremely complex and require skilled case management, sometimes on a long term basis. In addition to this, I provide specialist education and training to medical staff, nurses and therapists and undertake research and clinical audit. I make recommendations to improve protocols for the benefit of patient care. I lead an effective service which delivers high levels of clinical care and expertise.
I have a wealth of experience in neurological conditions, palliative care, respiratory problems, disability issues, continence issues, cognitive impairment, and chronic disease management. All nurses have to keep updated on falls risk assessments and prevention.
I accept instructions from both Claimant and Defendant Solicitors and Insurers. I have undergone formal training in the medico-legal process and am fully aware of my responsibilities under the Civil Procedure Rules (CPR) pertaining to expert witnesses.
