I qualified as an Occupational Therapist in 1988 from Wolverhampton School of Occupational Therapy. Following my training, having developed an interest in physical disability and life changing injuries, I concentrated on community based work for Social Services and the NHS. I have worked predominantly in physical disability but also in acute and long term mental health. This has given me a comprehensive understanding of the impact of disability on the physical, environmental, financial and psychosocial aspects of people’s lives and that of their families. I have rehabilitation experience both in the acute phases of illness and disability and in the longer term after many years and its impact on the ageing process. I have significant experience with an age range from 18 years to end of life.

Additionally, I am a qualified moving and handling advisor and have developed my skills to include the needs of the plus sized person.

I currently work for Suffolk Community Healthcare NHS three days a week where I provide a service for people with a wide variety of conditions including trauma, medical, stroke, surgery, long term degenerative conditions, palliative care, falls and complex discharges from hospital. Many of the people I assess have multi-pathologies which can include functional and organic mental health diagnoses and sensory loss. Following a thorough assessment I am able to identify needs for care, equipment, seating, adaptations, housing and I also provide rehabilitation programmes in conjunction with colleagues and other organisations. I am regularly involved in training carers and family members in safe moving and handling techniques.

I have experience of planning and implementing major adaptations, working closely with environmental health services and architects whilst employed by Social Services.

Throughout my career I have been involved in preparing and delivering a wide variety of training both to colleagues and other organisations.

I accept instructions from both claimant and defendant solicitors and insurers. I have undergone formal training in the medico-legal process and am fully aware of my responsibilities under the Civil Procedure Rules (CPR) pertaining to expert witnesses.
