Bsc Hons Community Health Nursing, Registered Midwife, Registered General Nurse
I qualified as a Registered General Nurse in 1989, since that time I have specialised in paediatrics, initially working in an acute setting on the neonatal intensive care unit as a midwife and neonatal nurse practitioner. After six years I moved to the community and trained as a health visitor.
I undertook an MSc in paediatric ambulatory care which allowed me to work autonomously as a paediatric nurse practitioner working in children's centres and GP practices across the Trust. This included spending one day a week in an acute setting on the paediatric assessment unit consulting with children, who had been referred into the unit by the accident and emergency department and out of hours GP services or by their GP. This role involved taking histories, undertaking physical assessments, referring for investigations and making a diagnosis for a range of undifferentiated paediatric conditions.
I have subsequently taught on the MSc course with a special interest in the new-born clinical assessment module.
I returned to health visiting and since Jan 2012 have been the Professional Development Lead for health visiting and school nursing. This has involved the development of the services including the development of pathways, protocols and guidance to support staff. Teaching is an integral part of this role and I have developed teaching sessions for staff on a range of paediatric conditions.
I currently deliver teaching sessions on domestic abuse, perinatal mental health, clinical supervision and have recently introduced training on paediatric conditions such as talipes, developmental dysplasia of the hips, reflux, and respiratory conditions. I maintain my competence by working clinically delivering the Healthy Child programme which involves delivering the universal contacts such as the antenatal contact, birth, 6-8 week, 1 year and 2 year developmental assessments. I have also been an active participant in implementing NICE guidance on managing gastro oesophageal reflux in children and young people.
I accept instructions from both Claimant and Defendant Solicitors and Insurers. I have undergone formal training in the medico-legal process and am fully aware of my responsibilities under the Civil Procedure Rules (CPR) pertaining to expert witnesses.
