Introduction
With over 30 years’ experience of nursing, I have a great deal to offer as a highly motivated and experienced individual. For the past 10 years I have been employed by the Hospice of St Francis in Berkhamsted as a Clinical Nurse Specialist in Palliative Care. This has involved working in the community caring for people with life threatening illnesses, providing symptom control and emotional support to the patient and their carers and families. At the same time, I participated in the formal education programme by providing supervision to junior nurses.
The Hospice cares for patients with a wide range of conditions including heart disease, lung disease, neurological illness and cancer. Care is provided in different areas including the Inpatient Unit and Out Patient clinics as well as in the home or in local hospitals and nursing homes. The Hospice is considered as a hub of excellence in palliative care and one of the strategic objectives I have been involved with is collaboration with other professionals working with patients facing the end of their lives.
I care passionately about patients’ quality of life and strive to ensure that they face death with dignity. At the same time I have been involved with supporting families through the difficult times both before and after bereavement. I have been part of a multi disciplinary team but required to work independently, using experience, initiative, diplomacy and interpersonal skills.
