Introduction
I have over 28 years experience in Nursing and for 23 of these years I have specialised in District Nursing.
I was also an RCN steward from 1985 to 2007, and have significant experience in representing nurses. I have represented nurses at disciplinary hearings on numerous occasions and have a proven record of being able to investigate, challenge and question statements from managers and other professionals.

Within my speciality of district nursing, I gained a degree in Education and Supervision for Health Care Practice. This has enabled me to educate and supervise nurses in training. In addition, it has also provided me with the required skills to be able to assess and grade practice. As a sign off mentor, I have the knowledge and skills to grade final practice, with the ability to pass or fail students in the practice setting.

In my current role as a Community Matron, I work as an advanced practitioner with patients with long-term conditions. My clinical caseload includes those with high complex needs where the intended outcome is to assess and treat at home when viable; thus preventing hospital admissions.

The key responsibilities of my role include:
♦ Development of new services.
♦ Educate patients in relation to specific conditions.
♦ Assess, diagnose and treat specific conditions.
♦ Initiate self care in response to exacerbations of conditions working within local / national protocols / guidelines.
♦ Case Management for those with high complex needs.
♦ Liaise and coordinate care packages across multi agencies, taking the lead in case management.
♦ Ensure end of life pathways are in place when appropriate.

I have always attempted to be proactive and forge the way forward within my speciality. For example, I set up the first leg ulcer clinic in the local community having made a case and been successful in securing funding. In addition, I have also been part of the team to initiate the Community Matron Service and have presented the positive outcomes of this service to other professionals as required. I regard myself as professional in my approach, with high personal standards.

In addition, I also undertake medico-legal work for Somek and Associates. I accept instructions from both Claimant and Defendant Solicitors and Insurers. I have undergone formal training in the medico-legal process and am fully aware of my responsibilities under the Civil Procedure Rules (CPR) pertaining to Expert Witnesses.
