Introduction
I qualified as a Registered Nurse in 1983 and became a Registered Midwife in 1985; since then I have developed my midwifery practice.

Within my present role as Consultant Midwife (Public Health), I provide professional leadership to support evidence-based changes in clinical practice, lead and develop quality services which supports a midwifery philosophy within the content of both the local and national public health agenda. I provide clinical leadership and act as an expert role model for midwives, as well as supporting collaboration with other professionals, local agencies both within the hospital and community setting as well as supporting families.

I work in clinical practice, leading a Healthy Life Style Clinic for antenatal mothers with a body mass index greater than 40. This clinically supports my contribution to the clinical governance agenda through the provision of advice and support on best practice and support the development of staff. Additionally I have been a Supervisor of Midwives since 2005. I have a working knowledge of the statutory framework for supervision and the role of the Nursing & Midwifery Council. I undertake critical incidents investigations within midwifery practice. I facilitate the audit of midwifery practice in public health and lead and coordinate midwifery research in this field.

I undertake medico-legal work where I accept instructions from both Claimant and Defendant Solicitors and Insurers. I have undergone formal training in the medico-legal process and am fully aware of my responsibilities under the Civil Procedure Rules (CPR) pertaining to Expert Witnesses.
