Introduction
I qualified as an Occupational Therapist in 2000 from the University of Cape Town, South Africa and have specialised in the area of neurological rehabilitation. I have gained extensive experience in assessment, treatment and management of complex neuro-disability, treating conditions such as Stroke, Multiple Sclerosis, Parkinson’s Disease, Motor Neurone Disease, Traumatic Brain Injury, Non traumatic and traumatic spinal cord injury, and general neurology both in the acute sector as well as in the community.

I am currently employed by the West Middlesex University Hospital NHS Trust as the Senior Occupational Therapist on the acute stroke unit. In this role, I am responsible for the assessment, treatment and discharge planning of a small caseload of acute Stroke patients. I have specialist skills in cognitive assessment, seating, upper limb assessment and treatment, including splinting. I have a key responsibility to supervise and train junior therapists. I am responsible for both OT and multidisciplinary service development.

I have experience in completing thorough home and access visits in order to facilitate complex discharges, which require me to write comprehensive discharge reports, interagency reports, home visit reports, letters to consultants, and referrals to community teams. I am confident and experienced in chairing complex family meetings, multi disciplinary team meetings and coordinating complex discharges – all of which require attention to detail, and an assessment of (and negotiation through) an often complex array of competing interests, while maintaining the interests of the patient.

I also undertake medico legal work for Somek and Associates. I accept instructions from both Claimant and Defendant Solicitors and Insurers. I have undergone formal training in the medico-legal process and am fully aware of my responsibilities under the Civil Procedure Rules (CPR) pertaining to Expert Witnesses.
