Introduction
I qualified as an Occupational Therapist in 1999 and am currently a part-time Senior Practitioner Occupational Therapist with a local authority in Adult Social Care. In this position I often recommend specialist equipment and environmental adaptations for physically disabled adults and supervise others. I joined my current employer in 2003 and have worked with physically and learning disabled adults and children since. Whilst based in the children’s service I assessed children with disabilities in the family home and school and recommended equipment and adaptations including hoisting and seating solutions. I also advised the voluntary sector how to support children with complex needs to participate in leisure and recreational activities and provided training. Prior to joining my current employer I worked for Leicestershire County Council as a Community Occupational Therapist assessing physically disabled adults and recommended equipment, adaptations and advised on moving and handling issues. I also commissioned and reviewed care packages. Before this I worked for the NHS in mental health services for two and half years.
I am also a part-time Senior Lecturer in Occupational Therapy at the University of Brighton where I am a year leader. I have also taught as a visiting lecturer at Brighton University since 2005 and have been an external Viva examiner. I am an accredited moving and handling trainer and consider I have particular skills and experience in relation to severely disabled adults and children, with a thorough knowledge of assessing care needs, specialist equipment, housing and adaptations.
I accept instructions from both Claimant and Defendant Solicitors and Insurers. I have undergone formal training in the medico-legal process and am fully aware of my responsibilities under the Civil Procedure Rules (CPR) pertaining to Expert Witnesses.
