Introduction
Having qualified as a Registered Nurse in 1985, I immediately trained in Theatre Nursing and became a Theatre Sister by 1987. I have continued to specialise in this field becoming a highly skilled Senior Theatre nurse with considerable experience and clinical practice in all areas of the speciality including Cardiac, Neuro and Laparoscopic Surgery. I have also spent many years in a senior management role within operating theatres with a remit for delivery of exceptional patient care. I have continuously had responsibilities for supervision and training of other theatre nursing staff and students. She has has been required to give evidence, representing her employer hospital, at NMC hearings on a number of occasions.
Since December 2010 I have chosen to revert to a totally clinical role specialising mainly in laparoscopic and Hepato –Biliary surgery, working in the operating theatres as either Senior Operating Theatre Scrub nurse or Surgical First Assistant.
In addition, I also undertake medico-legal work for Somek and Associates. I accept instructions from both Claimant and Defendant Solicitors and Insurers. I have attended formal medico-legal training in the role of the expert witness am fully aware of my responsibilities under the Civil Procedure Rules (CPR) pertaining to Expert Witnesses.
