Introduction
I qualified as an Occupational Therapist in 1996 and have specialised in the field of physical disability throughout my career, including management of patients with various neurological conditions (including stroke), medical and surgical procedures, orthopaedic conditions and general care of the elderly. I have been involved in carrying out occupational therapy assessments of service users and carers on behalf of Social Services departments, requiring minor and major adaptations and equipment provision, packages of care and rehousing.
For many years I have managed and supervised Occupational therapists and more recently have been involved in the supervision of other health professionals involved in Intermediate Care rehabilitation. I have also been involved in educating and training Occupational Therapists, students, other health professionals and carers.
My current role as Clinical Lead for In-Patient Rehabilitation, (Band 8a), involves the following main responsibilities:
♦ Leadership and co-ordination of the Enhanced Rehabilitation multi-disciplinary team (100 members of staff) to facilitate the provision of a high standard of clinical services to patients within the 2 community hospital settings at Edgware (37 beds including Stroke rehabilitation unit) and Finchley (28 beds)
♦ Operational management of Tracker staff in 4 local acute NHS Trusts
♦ Supporting the implementation of the Productive Ward and other initiatives to reduce length of stay and improve patient outcomes
♦ Monitoring of clinical effectiveness and quality through regular audits and reporting back to the trust Clinical Effectiveness Group
♦ Ensuring all milestones for developing Enhanced Rehabilitation are met through engaging with all staff and regular meetings with designated project leads
♦ Acting as liaison with site managers and other counterparts at local acute trusts and within Social Services to support effective discharge planning and bed management.
Additional Responsibilities :
♦ Development of 3 care pathways (Assessment, General Rehabilitation, Stroke Rehabilitation) to support the new Enhanced Model of Rehabilitation
♦ Development of Discharge Advisor post to support discharge planning across in-patient wards
