Elisabeth Shaw
Introduction
I am a Registered Nurse with 26 years experience and I specialise in the field of palliative care, having worked in this field since 1995. I am currently employed as a Staff Nurse at the Hospice of St Francis in Berkhamsted, Hertfordshire.
I have been trained in and practice the holistic management and care of patients and their families, providing structured physical and psychological individualised care. As a member of a multidisciplinary team at the hospice, I work to achieve effective symptom control, through observation at first hand and effective liaison with the relevant health care professional. In the community setting, she has worked autonomously with her own caseload and provided ongoing bereavement support. I participate in case conferences, both in the hospice and in the community, to create individualised care packages for patients and their families. I consider myself to be a good and intuitive listener, since being a guest in a patient's home to assess their needs requires sensitivity, tact and discretion.
I also undertake medico legal work for Somek and Associates. I accept instructions from both Claimant and Defendant Solicitors and Insurers. I have undergone formal training in the medico-legal process and am fully aware of my responsibilities under the Civil Procedure Rules (CPR) pertaining to Expert Witnesses.
