Introduction
I qualified as an Occupational Therapist in 1994 and have specialised in the field of Neurology since the year 2000. My current position is as Clinical Specialist Occupational Therapist for Community Health Buckinghamshire and Buckinghamshire Hospital Trust, where I carry an inpatient and community based caseload of patients with acquired brain injuries and chronic progressive neurological disability requiring neurological rehabilitation.
The key responsibilities of my role include:
♦ Provision of an inpatient and community Occupational Therapy Neurorehabilitation Service across Buckinghamshire PCT
♦ Direct management of a team of 7 Occupational Therapists based across two sites
♦ Facilitation of an Occupational Therapy in-service programme, focusing upon quality of Occupational Therapy provision (Occupational Performance)
♦ Contribution to the development of Neurological Services and Vocational Rehabilitation Services, through regular attendance of operational and strategic meetings
♦ Screening patients to determine suitability to participate within either inpatient or outpatient neurological services
♦ Inpatient and community based caseload of patients with complex neurological presentation
♦ Provision of specialist rehabilitation, to include, splinting, specialist seating, vocational rehabilitation, fatigue management, development of complex cognitive and behavioural programmes with patients with challenging behaviour and assessment of motor and sensory deficits.
I joined Somek and Associates in 2010, and have been providing Care and Rehabilitation, Occupational Therapy and Housing reports in cases of clinical negligence and personal injury since then. I have been instructed by both Claimant and Defendant as well as Single Joint. I have undergone training in the medico-legal process and am fully aware of my responsibilities under the Civil Procedure Rules (CPR) pertaining to Expert Witnesses.
