Introduction
I qualified as an Occupational Therapist from the University of Ulster in 1986 and have worked largely in the field of physical disability, but also in mental health and education. I specialise in community / intermediate care, care of the elderly and pain management and have extensive experience as a Senior Occupational Therapy Practitioner in these fields.
I am currently employed by the Trafford Primary Care Trust as a Band 7 Occupational therapist and I work in a community rehabilitation team which provides a service to patients with wide ranging physical disabilities. These include the frail elderly who experience a loss of mobility and falls, post operative patients and those with both acute (including fractures) and long term health conditions. I assess functional ability in the home, suitability of the home environment and the social and work situation. I identify rehabilitation needs including equipment and adaptations. I assess patients to identify their needs and refer to social services for the provision of equipment, minor or major adaptations and care packages.
Since joining Somek and Associates I have written medico-legal reports following instructions from both Claimant and Defendant Solicitors and Insurers. I have undergone training in the medico-legal process and am fully aware of my responsibilities under the Civil Procedure Rules (CPR) pertaining to Expert Witnesses.
