Introduction
I qualified as an Occupational Therapist in June 2001, and have specialised in the field of Neurosciences since 2002.
I currently work as a Senior Occupational Therapist at University College Hospital NHS Trust, National Hospital for Neurology and Neurosurgery. My role involves providing intensive in-patient Occupational therapy for five complex acute onset, chronic and progressive neurological conditions within an eighteen-bedded unit including stroke, Traumatic Brain Injury (TBI) and Multiple Sclerosis (MS).
I carry a significant clinical caseload and I am responsible for supervision of Occupational therapy staff and students. I also have experience working in orthopaedics and care of the elderly.
My specific responsibilities include:
♦ Various clinical interventions including complex wheelchair and seating assessments, splinting, fatigue management and cognitive and vocational rehabilitation
♦ Weekly clinic attendance with neurologist for in-patients and outpatients for NRU admissions
♦ Leading and co-ordinating service developments for the unit e.g. audits
♦ Supervision and appraisal of band 6 Occupational therapists and rehabilitation assistants
♦ Leading the teaching programme for all 3 neuro rehabilitation units within The National Hospital for Neurology and Neurosciences
I joined Somek and Associates in 2008 and have written medico-legal reports, being instructed by both Claimant and Defendant. I have undergone training in the medico-legal process and am fully aware of my responsibilities under the Civil Procedure Rules (CPR) pertaining to Expert Witnesses
